Sore throat conditions are very common and one cannot possibly go through life without experiencing them on occasion. They are sometimes not a medical condition by themselves, and could be the result of another illness, be it acute or chronic.
Whatever the case, having a sore throat can be rather unpleasant, or irritating, depending on the severity of the condition. Fortunately, in most cases it can be easily cured.
Sore Throat Symptoms
There are normally three types of sore throat. The first type of sore throat is probably the most irritating. The sufferer tends to experience a sensation akin to a feather tickling the inside of the throat.
The second type of sore throat is the feeling of a razor blade slicing the inside of the throat. The third type of sore throat is the burning sensation that can be felt inside the throat. With this type, it is common for patients to complain that their throat is “on fire.”
Whether the condition feels like feather tickling or being cut with a razor blade or akin to having been set ablaze with fire, sore throats are generally accompanied by coughing. Sore throats induce coughing because coughing is a way for the sufferer to alleviate the irritation. Sometimes, if the condition is left untreated, the sufferer is kept awake all night because of regular coughing fits.
The most common causes of sore throat are viral infections of the throat.
Sore Throat Treatment
There are several sore throat remedies. The most popularly used treatment for sore throats is local anaesthetics, or, in other words, cough lozenges and cough lollies.
Paracetamol tends to be most adequately suited for the sore throat sufferer who is experiencing the razor blade sensation. It numbs the pain and reduces any fever associated with an infection.
Local antiviral medication, such as the colloquially termed cough mixture, can be gargled and spat out. This treatment is normally taken first thing in the morning and prior to bed.
Another less popular form of sore throat remedy is that of natural treatment. One type of natural sore throat remedy is known as propolis. Propolis is a naturally occurring substance found in bee hives and is generally not recommended for patients allergic to bee stings.
Symptoms and Cures for Sore Throat
Sore throats are about as common as the cold and flu. They are not a serious medical condition, for they normally clear up even without treatment. But having a sore throat is always an unpleasant experience and can be easily cured.
